2016 BBQ & Awards

Big thankyou to everyone that came along to our final groms club session of 2016. Some great fancy dress costumes being sported by our groms (and coaches!).

What a glorious day it was for our end of season BBQ!! Thankyou to everyone who brought along food & drink (and some yummy cakes!) and of course everyone who helped carrry things & cook!

Congratulations to all our rookies who picked up their certificates from the winter lifesaving programme, and an extra big well done to Tehya – our most improved surfer this year. Our groms made it really hard to choose one winner this year as they all worked incredibly hard at their surfing with some great attitude shown even with the tricky conditions we had some weeks.

And finally a big thankyou to all our volunteers! You’ve all been a fantastic help with organising the sessions, coaching and keeping the groms safe every week!

Rookies CPR Training

The club building now has a public access defibrillator by the entrance – increasing the safety for the community here in Sennen ūüôā

We ran a CPR training session for our rookies with the mini-me manikins supplied by British Heart Foundation. Thank you BHF!

We’ll be running more first aid training sessions later in the year for our volunteers, groms and parents if anyone is interested!

Fancy Dress Surf!

A selection of our groms (and seniors) from the fancy dress surf on Sunday. Unfortunately I missed snapping a photo of them before they headed into the surf.

We had pirates, super heroes, zombies, penguins, bears and more! ¬†I was amazed at some of our groms surfing for so long with their outfits on. Sorry we didn’t get any better photos!

We’ll announce our winner at next weeks groms club!

Rookie Awards, congratulations!

Some of our rookies with their certificates awarded for completing their rookie lifeguard bronze / silver / gold awards! Congratulations all!

For those rookies who couldn’t make it to GromStock we have your certificates ready for you to collect when you can.

Gromstock – a big thankyou!

Thankyou to everyone who came along to Gromstock to celebrate with us¬†, here’s a¬†small selection of photo¬†from the day – a great time¬†was had by all of us.

First Groms Club 2015 – 31st May

The first Groms club of 2015 is this Sunday: 31st May.

We have a waiting list for the club so please do make sure you have reserved your childs place – to make things fair to all the groms priority first goes to those who surfed regularly with us last year, and then to those on the waiting list.

Looking forward to seeing you in the surf!

Interclub surfcomp with GAS

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the interclub surf comp with GAS. Lovely sunshine, shame the waves weren’t cleaner but at least we had waves!

Had a great BBQ & social over lunch too – hopefully have many more as the summer goes on.

Here’s a few photos from the various comp heats – sorry none from the main groms club session this week! Well done to all the competitors:¬†Leo, Pat, Finley, Minnie, Dolly, Owen, Callista and Morgan on behalf of Sennen Surf Club and¬†Rosie, Jay, Austin, Finlay and Callum from GAS!

Our finalists were:

  • 1st: Callista
  • 2nd: Minnie
  • 3rd: Jay
  • 4th: Rosie

Well done to all!

Beach BBQ

Drowning Prevention Week

Drowning Prevention WeekAs this weeks groms coincided with Drowning Prevention Week and flat conditions at Sennen we ran a lifesaving based session.

The session started off with a briefing by Stef (head lifeguard on Sennen) where he talked to them about lifeguarding and showed them the various items of kit that the lifeguards use on a daily basis. The groms then involved themselves in completing board rescues, board races, torpedo tube rescues, swimming races and learnt other basic beach lifesaving techniques.

The session was a big success and all groms seemed to enjoy what they were learning, we will likely repeat a session like this when conditions are not favourable for surfing!

Groms club 2014

We’re looking forward to the start of groms club again this year.

New season of groms club starts 1st June

We’ll be returning to the beach again on Sunday¬†1st June 2014 for our first groms club session. Sessions will be held at the same time as last year (9.30-11.30).

In the 2 weeks before we are running coaching training sessions for our volunteers Р18th & 25th May

If you’d be interested in volunteering with us please do¬†come along to these sessions and join in! ¬†It will be a mixture of beach and clubhouse training so we are well prepared to guide the groms in their learning.
